In-Kind contributions to education program

Bicycle Board Members, I met with Jeff Mikorski last Friday and we discussed in-kind contributions to the Morgantown Effective Bicycling Education Program (MEBEP). We agreed that a tally of such contributions would be valuable information for the WVDOT. We agreed that the following information would be useful: Your name Your profession (relevant to the MEBEP) The hours that you worked that were not compensated The work you did during those hours. I've attached an example spreadsheet and would like you to use it as a template for submitting your in-kind contributions. Please submit it by Thursday, October 28. Frank

MPO Ride

Many thanks to Don Spencer, gunnar, Ryan, Derek and Nick for showing up on their bikes at the Hotel Morgan at 4:30 today and escorting at least 4 WVDOH managers and 1 Mountain State Wheelers rep on the MPO bike ride. It was a jovial ride throughout. I only regret that we didn't ride up Mon Blvd. to Evansdale and back rather than stopping at the bottom and just discussing it. When I led the guys home in the dark after the picnic and tested them up Elk St., they all balked at my warning that some may choose to walk and sprinted up it. Now, I am sure they would have enjoyed the climb up the Blvd. and moreover the descent. Overall, the ride was much quicker than I estimated so I'm also grateful to Don for suggesting and to Nick for giving us a tour of his new digs at Marilla where WVDOH's Richard Warner tested a unicycle somewhat unsuccessfully and a tall bike rather successfully. The cookout was superb with gunnar leading local CXers around the park and by the pavilion, country music singing from a parked SUV, WVDOH engineers grilling and all eating excellent barbecue, burgers, dogs, salads, chips, dessert and of course, an assortment of copious good beers along with the kind of shop talk that I think all of us would enjoy. Our presentation at the conference was very well received with several participants making a point of contacting the speaker afterward. Bill Robinson, State Trails Coordinator said it was the best presentation of the conference because it provided much useful information. MPO Ride Wednesday

Bicycle Board Members, Who's coming on the Wednesday evening MPO rail-trail ride? I need at least one other cyclist to either lead the group or to bring up the rear. The ride begins at 4:30 pm at the Hotel Morgan and ends at the Cookout at Marilla Park at 6:00 pm. We will ride from the Hotel down to the rail-trail, out to Eighth St., turn around, ride the rail-trail out to the crossing of Green Bag Road at Southern States and then back on the road to Marilla. "Bike Laws" reference on Bike Morgantown page

Good afternoon, While updating the address information on our Positive Spin brochure regarding bike laws I checked both the old and new Bike Board references to bike laws. It appears the old site correctly references Article 373 of the municipal code, but the new site refers to Article 371 - I believe Article 373 is the correct reference. The other one is good, but it just doesn't have as much to say about bicycles. It appears to talk exclusively about pedestrians. Wasn't sure who to send this comment to, hope it helps. Bicycle Board Members, At the last BB meeting, I took an action item to develop a Confident City Cycling business card that could be distributed through the local bike shops and other locations. Attached is my attempt. I am not a graphic designer so any constructive comments are appreciated. Also, I'd like to put the LAB logo on there if any of you could show me how to get it. Bicycle Board Members, At the last Bicycle Board Meeting, I took an action item to create slides that describe the Bicycle Board for this month's MPO conference. Such slides are now 30-41 of the presentation. Bicycle Board Members, I just received the attached file from Nick Hein as completion of his action item "107. Prepare a detailed proposal of the Youth Bicycle Education plan, including an outline of class design and the detailed actions that the BB will be expected to take." He wants to discuss it at tonight's meeting. Since the agenda is already full, when we discuss the agenda as topic 2 of the meeting we can decide how and when to deal with it. My inclination is to put it on the agenda for our November meeting. At least, you could familiarize yourself with it before tonight's meeting. Frank
